Types of Massage
Swedish Massage - This massage style uses five styles of strokes. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber or with the fibers) and vibration/shaking.
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) - A precise, thorough examination and treatment of the body’s soft tissues using regionally oriented protocols that are taught in a step-by-step process. Neuromuscular therapy is a specialized form of deep tissue massage in which digital pressure and friction are used to release areas of strain in the muscle.
Myofascial Release (or MFR) - A soft tissue therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle immobility and pain. This alternative medicine therapy aims to relax contracted muscles, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulate the stretch reflex in muscles. Myofascial Release is a type of treatment used to treat chronic pain from the following: back, neck, menstrual, jaw, headaches, jaw, and others.
Trigger Point - A tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may produce referral pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache.
Deep-tissue Massage - A specific type of massage therapy that concentrates on the deep layers of muscle and fascia in the body; and recommended by many doctors as a treatment option. By using deep finger pressure and slow, firm strokes, deep tissue massage is used to treat a variety of physical ailments.
Thai - What is today called "Thai massage" or "Thai yoga massage" is an ancient healing system combining acupressure, Indian Ayurvedic principles, and assisted yoga postures. It is an interactive manipulation of the body using passive stretching and pressure along energy lines. This is therapeutic for chronic muscle tension and stiffness.
Aromatherapy Massage - Swedish massage with light to medium pressure best for relaxation with use of botanical oils to refresh, restore and revitalize. Perfect for relieving stress and harmonizing.
Hot Stone Massage - Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. It is a deeply soothing, relaxing and helps tight muscles release.
Reflexology - The application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears. Reflexologists believe that these areas and reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems, and that pressing them has a beneficial effect on the organs and person's general health.
